Bay Tri žala is one of the most beautiful bays on the island of Korcula.
Also in this part of the island you will found Lumbarda, which is 5 km from Korcula. Here you can swimm on long beaches, two more known are Pržina and Bili žal. From Lumbarda you can drive to the diving center at MM SUB dives around Lumbarda and islets, which lie close. One of the most attractive dive is the wreck of the S-57 Amendment. This is a torpedo boat, which sank in the World War II. In addition, there plunge in ancient anchorage or amforišče. You can also view a submerged mine from World War II. Also there you can make diving at beautiful walls and in the canyon. The owner of the center can tell you many interesting things about diving with skafander, because he was several years working as a professional diver heavy. Korcula is one of the few outer islands, where there is no need to pay additional fees for the dive, so as to Lastovo, Vis, Sušec, Palagruza, Kornati and Mljet.
Other places of note worth hiking to when on holiday in Raščišće bay are the village of Pupnat and the Kocje Nature Reserve. You reach Pupnat by an old Napoleon road. We would also recommend visiting Jakasova cave. You can also hike to the hill of Zukova Njiva (Alt. 308 metres) to enjoy the beautiful panorama of the east part of the island of Korcula. Here you can look out into the Adriatic sea and see the paradise island of Mljet. Then we climb down to visit the Jakasova cave (about 100 meters long) and enjoy it’s fascinating underground world before continuing to the small beach on Rasohatica where you can take time to relax and swim.
Žrnovo is located near the town of Korcula. The city has preserved the genuine character of the island. Here you can spend a relaxing holiday, far from crowded beaches and in the evening you can see the town square performances of traditional warrior dances. Surrounding of the city is known for its natural attractions, namely the labyrinth of karst passages.
Korcula is also very beautiful on the inside, where there are many cultivated fields and vineyards and it is also interesting for cycling. Another special feature is the Žrnovo forest that grows on dolomite and therefore sufficient moisture. There you can at the hottest day hide in the pleasant shade of the forest.
Korcula has also lot of interesting terrain for scuba diving. The northern part of Korcula, around Vela Luka , Prizba and Brne, is known for very deep outer walls, which is the side facing the island of Lastovo. Feature are also underwater "caves". One of the most famous cave is the Ključ on the cape, where the entrance is at a depth of 15 to 20m. On the wall, which descends below the cave, you can see the red coral already at a depth of 30 to 40m. Dive is suitable for those who already have some experience and passed an advanced course. There, you can drive to dive with the diving center of Vela Luka and it starts from Grscica. On a day trip may go out on Lastovo.
If you take a boat ride along the coast, along the outside of the south, you can admire the wild bays Pupnatska, Orlanduša ... and walls that drop sharply into the sea.
In the southern part of the island lies the capital city of Korcula, which has an old town with walls from the time of ancient Greece. From then is the name Korkyra Melaina or Black island. The city is one of the most beautiful on the Adriatic coast and is also the most populated of the island. The town of Korcula is the only place that has a water supply duct from the mainland, which is in the arid summer months a great advantage. Town Korčula is famous as the birthplace of Marco Polo, the world traveler.
If you want real gourmet delights, is the right restaurant Zure, which offers food made from home production of wine, olives, vegetables and his own catch of fresh fish. There you can enjoy in Dalmatian cuisine and good wine Grk, and it’s not expensive. In autumn you can join the harvest or in early November, collecting olives and olive oil pressing. If you like catching fish, you can go on fish picnik.
How to Korcula? Really is a little far, but you will not regret it. You can drive along the highway to the sea and to the Peljesac then by ferry from Orebic to Korcula, or through Karlovac and Knin, Plitvice. 680 km it will take 9 to 10 hours of driving. Alternatively, you take the ferry with a car already in Rijeka (what is not exactly cheap), or in Split. Another route is from Drvenik ferry to Korcula, which runs during the season. The cheapest is with a train from Zagreb to Split and catamaran from Split to Korcula, if you do not need a car.
