The traditions remained until these days and in Dugi Rat you can still enjoy homemade traditional specialties or walk to the near old village Jesenice and Duce with rural architecture and experience the touch of the past times.

Besides the rich natural and history beauty, this touristy pearl of Dalmatia has a lot to offer in the form of various cultural manifestation and entertainment program.  Festival klapa in Omis, Fishermen nights, beach bars, folklore or urban evenings, summer masquerade, celebration of the first part of the New Year, swimming marathon, crazy dives and as the part of the cultural summer in this area.  Traditional festival of Dalmatian klapa songs has been taking place in Omis each year since 1967 on the squares in the old parts of the town, to maintain the cultural heritage and is the greatest manifestation of this kind.

Old villages surrounding Dugi Rat are on a higher level above the sea, at the foot of Mount Perun (Mosor southern spur). Today these villages have been abandoned as for years the inhabitants have moved towards the coast. The town has become particularly notable over the past thirty years, thanks to the greater development of tourism. Regarding the age of those villages situated on the foot of the mountain, archaeological finds in the Turska peć and Ponistrice caves, which are evidence of the existence of life in that area since the Stone Age. Settlements of a permanent population can be confirmed by the castles and accumulation of stones from the late Bronze and Iron Age.

One of the old villages in surroundings of Dugi Rat in the foot of Mt Mošnjica is Staro Duce where there are nice old preserved stone houses. All of these villages follow the same pattern; they all have streets, roads, small squares, centres that are mostly in the vicinity of the church or school, and fileds. Each village boasts some historic monument. Some have churches more than 200 years old, old village cemeteries, bell towers.
